Blast Carried Out Near Head Qadirabad to Control Water Flow: Watch

27 August, 2025 14:50

A flood situation has developed in the Chenab River after India released water into rivers, prompting urgent measures by the district administration. A controlled blast was carried out near Head Qadirabad in Punjab to create a breach and manage water flow.

According to details, the Indian High Commission shared fresh information with Pakistan regarding water discharge, after which the Indus Water Commission issued flood alerts for several points along the Chenab and Ravi rivers.

Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Irfan Ali Kathia, told the media that this is the largest inflow of water seen in 38 years. He confirmed that a major flood wave passed through Shahdara on Wednesday night between 10 p.m. and 12 a.m.

Kathia added that such high water levels in the Ravi River have not been witnessed since 1988. He urged residents living along the banks of the Ravi to evacuate, as a significant flood wave is expected to pass through the river within the next two to three days.

Despite the severity of the situation, Kathia expressed confidence in the government’s preparedness. He said timely precautionary steps have ensured that no loss of life has been reported so far. He emphasized that while the situation will remain challenging until the floodwaters pass through Rahim Yar Khan, there is currently no risk of structural damage in Punjab.
