Seven-Year-Old Taimoor Waseem Shines as Pakistan Secures Sixth Global Youth Scrabble Crown
KUALA LUMPUR: Pakistan once again stamped its authority in the world of competitive Scrabble, securing the Team Trophy at the 20th World Youth Scrabble Championship, held in Kuala Lumpur. The triumph marks the sixth global title for the country at the prestigious event.
The championship witnessed a historic moment when seven-year-old Taimoor Waseem, son of grandmaster Waseem Khatri, stunned opponents to claim the Under-8 world title. His achievement was lauded by international officials, cementing his place as one of the youngest emerging talents in the sport.
Pakistan’s dominance continued across multiple categories. Ahzam Siddiqui captured the Under-16 world championship, while Muhammad Yusuf earned a silver medal in the Under-10 division. In addition, Bilal Ashar finished as runner-up in the Under-16 category, further boosting the nation’s medal tally.
This year’s edition of the World Youth Scrabble Championship was the largest to date, drawing 226 players from 20 countries. Despite the scale of competition, Pakistan’s 24-member squad emerged as the standout team, reinforcing the nation’s reputation for producing top-tier Scrabble talent.
Following their success, the Pakistani contingent will now turn its focus to the Gateway Masters Cup, scheduled from September 5 to 7 in Kuala Lumpur, where they aim to extend their international winning streak.
