Who is Elisabet Lann? Sweden’s New Health Minister Collapses at First Press Briefing!
Just hours after assuming office, Sweden’s newly appointed Health Minister Elisabet Lann collapsed during her first press conference on Tuesday, sparking concern among officials and viewers. The dramatic moment, captured on video, shows the minister suddenly losing balance, striking the lectern, and falling to the floor as colleagues and journalists rushed to help.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and other officials reacted immediately, while security and media personnel moved in to assist. Lann appeared unconscious for a brief period before being escorted away from the stage.
One clip shared on X described the incident: “Swedish Health Minister Elisabet Lann suddenly collapsed during a press conference. She fell face-first onto the podium as people rushed in to give her immediate assistance.”
Who is Elisabet Lann?
Lann, 41, stepped into the role of Health Minister following the resignation of Acko Ankarberg Johansson on September 8. A member of the Christian Democrats, she began her political career as a municipal councillor in Gothenburg in 2019 and later served on the Health Care Responsibility Inquiry panel. Holding a Master’s in peace and development studies, she also worked as deputy director in the Cabinet Office.
Despite the alarming collapse, Lann returned to the briefing shortly after, reassuring reporters: “This was not exactly a normal Tuesday, and this is what can happen when you have a blood sugar drop.” She later left the event again, with SVT reporting that she had recovered without serious complications.
Online reactions quickly followed the viral video, with some expressing concern over the severity of the fall and others speculating about possible health factors.
