Who is Ernest Wesley Heinz? Sopranos Actor Arrested in Road Rage Shooting
Actor Ernest Wesley Heinz has been arrested in connection with a road rage shooting in Galloway Township, New Jersey. According to PHL 17 News, Heinz faces multiple charges including criminal attempt homicide, aggravated assault with a firearm, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Heinz, who briefly appeared in the hit TV series The Sopranos in 2006, has also taken small roles in films like Fool’s Gold, J. Edgar, and Ricky. He also worked as a producer and actor in the short film A Day with the Urns. Beyond acting, Heinz once made a video to raise awareness about breast cancer, highlighting his sister Kristy Heinz’s treatment journey at the University of Pennsylvania.
The incident unfolded on September 11, when Maritza Arias-Galva called 911 reporting she had been shot in the face while driving near Stockton University’s Vera King Ferris Drive. She described the suspect as a man with a long blonde ponytail driving a white Honda SUV. Police later identified the suspect as 46-year-old Heinz, a resident of Port Republic.
Galloway Township Police Chief Eric B. Hendrickson praised the swift work of officers, stating:
“The prompt and professional actions of our officers resulted in a quick apprehension of Mr. Heinz. We wish Ms. Aria-Galva a swift recovery, and we are here to support our community following this senseless incident.”
Hendrickson further cautioned:
“These charges are merely an accusation and not proof of guilt. In all criminal cases, a charged defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.”
Arias-Galva was taken to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center and is now in stable condition. During the manhunt, Stockton University issued a shelter-in-place order, later lifted after Heinz’s arrest. University President Joe assured students of their safety, saying:
“The decision to issue the directive was made out of an abundance of caution… While the incident did not occur on campus, the safety of our students, faculty, and staff is always our highest priority.”
Heinz is currently being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility as investigations continue.
