Who is the Wife of Frederick Haynes III? Health Concerns Raise Questions

16 September, 2025 17:01

Friendship-West Baptist Church’s senior pastor, Dr. Frederick D. Haynes III, has temporarily stepped down from his pastoral duties due to a recent medical diagnosis. On September 15, the church confirmed that Dr. Haynes will undergo surgery and spend the coming weeks focused on recovery.

In his absence, Executive Pastor Rev. David Malcolm McGruder has been appointed to oversee pastoral and ministry responsibilities, while Chief Operations Officer Mrs. Veta Holt will continue managing financial operations.

In a heartfelt statement, Dr. Haynes reassured his congregation:

“While this is a personal challenge, I stand firm in my faith and have complete confidence in God’s healing power. James 5:15 reminds us, ‘And the prayer of faith shall save the sick.’ I am profoundly grateful for your prayers, love, support, understanding, and respect for my privacy during this time, and I look forward to returning after my recovery.”

The church also encouraged members and well-wishers to send prayers and messages through Kudoboard, while gifts and cards may be directed to Friendship-West Baptist Church, Attn: Alisha Trusty. Periodic updates will be provided by Chief Strategist Alisha Trusty on behalf of the church.

Following the announcement, the church’s social media pages were flooded with prayers and supportive messages. One member wrote, “Pastor Haynes, we love you immensely and will be praying for a safe, uneventful surgery… God is setting you up for the comeback of all comebacks!” Another added, “Praying in Jesus Name for a speedy recovery after surgery for Dr. Haynes. Amen 🙏.”

Dr. Haynes recently celebrated his 41st wedding anniversary with his wife, Debra Peek-Haynes, on August 30, 2025. Debra is the founder and president of Quorum Commercial, a real estate firm, and also runs Debra’s Healing Kitchen, established in 2011. The couple share a daughter, Abeni Jewel Haynes.

Born on November 10, 1960, in Dallas, Texas, Dr. Haynes is the son of the late Rev. Frederick D. Haynes Jr. and Lynetta Haynes-Oliver. He studied Religion and English at Bishop College, later earning a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry from the Graduate Theological Foundation. He also pursued studies at Christ Church, Oxford University.

Dr. Haynes became senior pastor at Friendship-West Baptist Church in 1983 and has authored two books: Healing Our Broken Village and Soul Fitness.

At this time, the church has not shared further details regarding his medical condition, but members and community leaders continue to rally behind him with faith and prayers.
