Renowned MBBS doctor, Dr. Tamkenat Mansoor, has released an informative video highlighting the urgent need for HPV vaccination among Pakistani girls aged 9 to 14 years. In the video, Dr. Tamkenat emphasized that the HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine is a critical tool in the prevention of cervical cancer, and called for greater awareness and accessibility across the country.

Citing a comprehensive study conducted by Pakistani researchers, Dr. Tamkenat revealed that data collected between 2007 and 2018 shows the HPV infection rate in Pakistan has reached 23%. She described the figure as alarming, stressing that swift and strategic steps are needed to ensure widespread vaccination to protect women’s health.

Drawing attention to regional examples, Dr. Tamkenat highlighted Saudi Arabia, where the HPV vaccine has been in use since 2010. In 2021, it was officially included in the national immunization program. Within just one year, over 131,000 children were vaccinated in 2022, showcasing the country’s proactive approach.

Similarly, Iran has successfully developed its own local HPV vaccine, despite facing global restrictions. Dr. Tamkenat pointed to this achievement as proof of the vaccine’s critical importance in safeguarding women’s health.

She concluded by calling on Pakistani health authorities to take immediate and concrete steps to make the HPV vaccine accessible to all eligible girls, to reduce the risk of cervical cancer and protect future generations of women.
