BISP digital wallet accounts now connected with CNIC, OTP needed for payments

18 September, 2025 13:40

The Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) has made a big change in the way it gives payments. Now, more than 10 million digital wallet accounts have been created for beneficiaries. These wallets are directly linked with the beneficiary’s CNIC number.

The next step is to connect these wallets with the beneficiary’s mobile number. Once done, payments will be sent in a secure way using an OTP (One-Time Password) system.

What’s New?

In the past, BISP payments were collected through cash centers or agents, which caused long lines, delays, and sometimes fraud.

Now the system is easier:

  • Wallet accounts are created for every beneficiary.

  • Each wallet is linked with the CNIC number.

  • To receive payments, the wallet must also be linked with a mobile number.

  • An OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number during payment collection.

What Is a Wallet Account?

A wallet account is a digital account connected to your CNIC and mobile number. It is not a normal bank account but works in a similar way.

With this wallet, beneficiaries can:

  • Withdraw cash from BISP centers, ATMs, or partner banks.

  • Receive secure payments directly.

  • Avoid middlemen and fraud.

Why CNIC and Mobile Number Matter

Each wallet is created on the CNIC number, which ensures only the real beneficiary gets the money. One wallet = one CNIC.

The mobile number is needed for OTP. Without linking a mobile number, the account will not work.

How the OTP System Works

  1. The beneficiary requests payment at an ATM, counter, or wallet service.

  2. An OTP is sent to their registered mobile number.

  3. The beneficiary enters or shares this OTP.

  4. Payment is released immediately.

This step makes sure that no one else can take the payment.

What Beneficiaries Should Do

  • Check that your CNIC is valid and not expired.

  • Make sure your SIM is registered in your own name.

  • Provide your correct mobile number to BISP.

  • Keep your mobile phone active to receive OTP messages.

  • Never share OTP with anyone except at the official counter.

Why This Is Important

This new system makes BISP payments faster, safer, and transparent. Women, who are the main beneficiaries, will have more control over their money. It also reduces corruption and teaches families to use digital payments.

In the long run, BISP’s wallet accounts will improve financial access and bring more trust in the payment system.
