Irish Novelist Naoise Dolan Joins Gaza Aid Flotilla

19 September, 2025 09:13

Dublin, September 19, 2025 – Irish novelist Naoise Dolan has joined the Global Sumud Flotilla to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. The 33-year-old writer said she understands the dangers involved but believes the mission is worth the risk.

Dolan Speaks on Risks and Responsibility

Dolan, who is from Dublin, spoke to the Irish Independent before her departure. She said that death is a “necessary risk” in order to help the people of Gaza. She explained that she is not looking to be a martyr but feels this is a way to resist injustice.

“I know the risks,” Dolan said. “But you have to accept them if you want to make a difference. What Palestinians face in Gaza is far worse than anything I could experience.”

A Moral Stand Against Normalised Violence

The writer also highlighted the importance of standing against what she described as the normalisation of violence and genocide. She said it is natural to feel fear but even more frightening to live in a world where governments ignore human suffering.

“This is a moral test,” she added. “It shows how governments might treat all of us if they are not challenged.”

Global Sumud Flotilla Mission

The flotilla is set to depart from Catania, Italy, later this week. It is part of an international campaign to deliver aid to Gaza despite the risks of interception. Activists from different countries are expected to join the mission.

Dolan is known for her bestselling debut novel Exciting Times. By joining the flotilla, she has now taken on a humanitarian role, saying that silence is not an option when lives are at stake.
