Public Holiday Announced on Oct 1
RAHIM YAR KHAN: The district administration has announced a local holiday on October 1 to mark the Urs of revered Sufi saint and poet Hazrat Khawaja Ghulam Farid.
According to an official notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Khurram Pervez, all government and semi-government offices across the district will remain closed on the day.
The annual Urs celebrations attract thousands of devotees from across the country, who gather to pay tribute through spiritual gatherings and commemorative events honoring Khawaja Ghulam Farid’s legacy.
This follows a similar declaration in Sheikhupura, where a local holiday was observed on September 24 for the 228th Urs of Syed Waris Shah, another iconic Sufi poet. The Sheikhupura notification, issued by Deputy Commissioner Shahid Imran Marth, stated that all district government offices were closed to facilitate celebrations and public participation in the Urs of Syed Waris Shah.
Both holidays highlight the deep cultural and spiritual significance of Sufi traditions in the region.
