The Simpsons Movie Sequel Confirmed, Nearly 20 Years After Original Release

The beloved Simpsons family is set to return to the big screen almost two decades after their first feature film. A new movie based on the iconic Fox animated series is scheduled for release in July 2027.

This will be the first full-length Simpsons film since the original 2007 movie, which followed over 400 episodes of the long-running TV show. The announcement was made official by 20th Century Studios on Instagram, sharing an image of Homer Simpson holding a pink sprinkle donut shaped like the number 2, accompanied by the caption: “Homer’s coming back for seconds.”

The 2007 film received mixed reviews from critics but was warmly embraced by fans who had been following the show for over 20 years at that point. Speaking earlier this year to Variety, showrunner Matt Selman highlighted the role of streaming platforms in keeping the series popular with new audiences. He said, “The streaming platforms have helped the series remain popular. Now instead of the kids watching it on local TV in the afternoon, they can just watch it all, all the time, all day, all forever.”

While no plot details for the upcoming film have been revealed, excitement is already growing among fans as Springfield prepares for its cinematic comeback in 2027.

Social media reactions have been enthusiastic, with one fan tweeting, “Bart kept his promise… The new ‘SIMPSONS’ movie is slated for July 23, 2027, filling the date vacated by a Marvel Studios movie.
