Did Phillies Karen File Lawsuit Against MLB? Viral Claim Exposed
Over a month after a woman nicknamed “Phillies Karen” went viral on social media, rumors surfaced alleging that she was suing Major League Baseball (MLB).
The woman had sparked outrage in September after forcing a father and his son to surrender a home run ball during the Philadelphia Phillies vs. Miami Marlins game on September 5.
However, the viral assertions are false. Fact-checking outlet Lead Stories debunked the claims, confirming that the woman is not suing MLB. The platform traced the origin of the posts—widely shared on Facebook and X—to a self-described satire account. Additionally, the image used in the false post was digitally altered, depicting Senator Elizabeth Warren’s face instead of the real woman from the Phillies game.
The viral rumor falsely quoted the woman as saying, “I lost my job, I lost my dignity, I lost my livelihood. They need to compensate and pay for the damages they caused me… I’ve been humiliated, they must pay and make things right!”
The incident that earned her the nickname “Phillies Karen” occurred at LoanDepot Park in Miami when Phillies player Harrison Bader hit a home run into the stands. A father, Drew Feltwell, managed to secure the ball for his young son. Moments later, the woman confronted him, leading Feltwell to hand over the ball.
Following the episode, online users criticized the woman’s conduct. Yet, in an interview with USA Today, Feltwell urged restraint, stating, “Please don’t do anything to that lady… The internet already messed her up pretty good.”
As reported by NBC Philadelphia, the Phillies organization later made the night memorable for Feltwell’s son, gifting him a goodie bag and a bat autographed by Bader.
