Candace Owens shares throwback chat with Charlie Kirk about Nicki Minaj & Jay-Z’s verses on Monster

On October 23, 2025, political commentator Candace Owens posted two screenshots on social media that appeared to show a 2018 conversation between herself and the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The messages, dated March 2018, revealed a surprising exchange about rap music — specifically Kanye West’s 2010 hit Monster, featuring Nicki Minaj and Jay-Z.

The alleged conversation began with Kirk sending Owens a screenshot suggesting he was listening to the song. Owens replied by expressing admiration for Nicki Minaj’s verses, to which Kirk responded with several lines from the track, commending Nicki’s performance. Owens then mentioned her appreciation for Jay-Z’s part as well.

Kirk reportedly said he used to go for his “regular runs” while listening to Jay-Z’s verses, adding, “YES IT GETS THE BLOOD FLOWING.” In her reply, Owens remarked that she was impressed with his “hip-hop development.”

The post quickly went viral, amassing over 9 million views and more than 25,000 likes. Alongside the screenshots, Owens reflected on Kirk’s musical journey, noting that he had once struggled to distinguish between Jay-Z and Kanye West. She added that “everybody in politics was fake and gay, but at least we had hip-hop.”

The resurfaced chat came shortly after a gag order was imposed in the ongoing Charlie Kirk assassination case, which has drawn widespread public and media attention. According to The Times Now World, 4th District Court Judge Tony Graf issued the gag order in State v. Tyler Robinson.

The directive legally restricts individuals involved in the case from making public statements that could influence the trial. Judge Graf emphasized the importance of fairness, stating, “Regardless of who is watching, whether it is the nation or a single individual, we must fulfill our roles with integrity, civility and diligence.”

Owens, who has been one of the most vocal figures since Kirk’s assassination last month, responded to the court’s decision in a tweet, though the full content of her message has not been disclosed in available reports.

Meanwhile, Tyler Robinson — the suspected shooter — faces charges of aggravated murder. According to Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray, a conviction on this charge could result in the death penalty.
