The Origin of Otto Kilcher’s Death Hoax

The death rumor began spreading when the Facebook page “Parker Schnabel Fans” posted an edited image of Otto Kilcher framed in gold, surrounded by candles and flowers. The image included the words “REST IN PEACE,” with a caption falsely claiming that Otto “passed away at 2:30 AM on October 22, 2025.” The post quickly went viral, gaining more than 7,900 likes and being reshared across multiple fan pages.

Another page, “Rain Brown – Alaskan Bush People,” shared the same image, further fueling the confusion. The post also linked to an article on an anonymous website that repeated the false claim.

Misinformation Spread Through a YouTube Video

The article directed users to a YouTube video titled “The Tragic Death of Otto Kilcher from Alaska: The Last Frontier – ABP”. The video included footage of a burial site followed by clips of Otto’s life and narration about his family. Despite the misleading title, the narration referred to Otto in the present tense, showing that it was not an announcement of his death.

Even more suspiciously, the video was uploaded on March 21, 2024—well over a year before the claimed date of Otto’s supposed death. This contradiction further confirms that the current viral rumor is completely false.

No Official Statement From the Kilcher Family

As of now, no credible news outlet or member of the Kilcher family has confirmed Otto’s passing. On the contrary, several close sources and fan accounts have dismissed the rumors, reassuring fans that Otto is alive at 73 years old.

Who Is Otto Kilcher?

Otto Kilcher is a well-known reality TV star, farmer, and mechanic who appeared on the Discovery Channel series Alaska: The Last Frontier. The show aired for 11 seasons, from December 2011 to November 2022, and chronicled the Kilcher family’s off-grid lifestyle in Homer, Alaska.

Born in 1952, Otto is one of eight children of Yule and Ruth Kilcher. He grew up learning how to survive off the land, crafting tools from scrap and managing livestock without modern conveniences.
