Was 91-year-old Helen Miller arrested? Viral felony theft claim debunked

10 November, 2025 13:15

A story about 91-year-old Helen Miller recently went viral on social media, causing concern among readers.

Several Facebook posts claimed that Helen, married to George, was arrested and charged with felony theft for allegedly stealing her husband’s monthly prescriptions.

The posts said she was hospitalized and appeared in court, where a judge supposedly dismissed the charges. The story suggested that Helen could not afford her husband’s medication and had to shoplift it after his condition worsened.

However, there is no evidence that a 91-year-old woman was arrested for felony theft or released by a judge. The viral posts and an untrustworthy blog did not cite any credible sources.

All the posts included a photo of Helen in a hospital gown and handcuffs. The image actually came from a Facebook page called Dailystories and was a screenshot of an AI-generated video showing Helen in a courtroom.

Dailystories, with over 567,000 followers, often shares fake stories using AI-generated clips and images. In the video, the woman, supposedly Helen, tells the judge:

“I’d never thought I’d see a day like this, Your Honor.”

The judge says the woman shouldn’t be in chains, and she replies:

“I want to go home.”

The post included the fabricated story, which sparked reactions from readers.

Public Reactions

The AI-generated clip received hundreds of comments. Many believed the story, while others praised Dailystories’ storytelling. Some of the comments include:

  • “Please let her go! Our elderly need help!”

  • “Wonderful Judge. He really so kind and helpful to this poor older woman.”

  • “Desperate measures, to see your husband dying in front of your eyes, needs must, so she went back to pharmacy not thinking of the consequences. My heart goes out to you.”

  • “This is very bad, at her age, sometimes the brain don’t function properly anymore, she may have confused memories, it’s not good to chain her and video.”

Some users noted the story’s relevance despite being fictional:

  • “This story may be made up as some think, but this is happening in real life, and no one especially the elderly should have to face this.”

  • “Even if this one is made up, I’m sure it’s going on in a lot of elderly homes.”

  • “Good story but likely made up.”

The original post by Dailystories has gained over 13,000 impressions and more than 733,000 views.
