Who was the fedora man at the Louvre heist? Viral teen revealed
The fedora man, who went viral after a photo was taken following the Louvre heist in Paris, has finally been identified.
The man caught attention after France’s crown jewels were stolen from the museum on October 19. In the Associated Press photo, he stood out with his waistcoat, tie, fedora, and wood-handled umbrella, looking calm and perceptive.
The viral figure is 15-year-old Pedro Elias Garzon Delvaux, who lives with his family in Rambouillet, near Paris, according to Associated Press.
In the photo taken near the Louvre after the heist, Delvaux is seen walking past a few cops leaning on a car in front of the museum. His stylish appearance made him stand out, and soon his image went viral, with netizens debating who he actually was.
Initially, some thought he was a detective, while others claimed he might be an AI-generated persona. The photographer, Thibault Camus, confirmed he was real:
“I don’t know him. I don’t know if he is French. Maybe a tourist? Maybe he is English.”
Pedro Elias Garzon Delvaux Speaks Out
In his first interview since going viral, Delvaux told Associated Press that he was wearing his father’s Yves Saint Laurent waistcoat, jacket, pants, a restored watch, and a tilted fedora, inspired by Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, and Jean Moulin.
He said the reason he went viral was because of his old-fashioned clothing:
“In the photo, I’m dressed more in the 1940s, and we are in 2025. There is a contrast…I like to be chic. I go to school like this.”
He added that the fedora is reserved for special occasions, like museum visits and weekends.
On the day of the heist, Delvaux had gone to the museum with his mother and grandfather. He said:
“We wanted to go to the Louvre, but it was closed. We didn’t know there was a heist. When the picture was taken, I didn’t know. I was just passing through.”
Going Viral
Delvaux found out he had gone viral through his friends and family. His mother told him he had even appeared in the New York Times. He said:
“She told me there were 5 million views. I was a bit surprised…People said, ‘You’ve become a star.’ I was astonished that just with one photo you can become viral in a few days.”
At first, he did not reveal he was the fedora man:
“I didn’t want to say immediately it was me. With this photo there is a mystery, so you have to make it last.”
Eventually, he made his Instagram profile public and waited for journalists to contact him. In closing, Delvaux said he plans to continue dressing elegantly.
