Why Is Brandon Buckingham Hospitalized? Viral Claims Suggest YouTuber Faked Illness for GoFundMe
Brandon Buckingham, the YouTube personality and rapper, confirmed last week via social media that he is hospitalized due to organ failure. However, on Thursday, November 27, a viral post on X (formerly Twitter) claimed that Buckingham may have fabricated his medical emergency to solicit donations through a GoFundMe fundraiser.
The post originated from a user known as Green Garry and included a video showing Buckingham in a hospital bed. The caption read:
“Insane. Youtuber and rapper @Buckingham_Show exposed for faking his hospital GoFundMe scare, recording in a possibly fake hospital set, not showing medical documents regarding his condition.”
In the clip, the individual pointed out what he alleged were inconsistencies in Buckingham’s hospitalization. He highlighted that the tubes connected to Buckingham appeared unplugged, the monitoring machines were silent, and he repeatedly focused on nearby equipment while laughing. “I don’t know how, I don’t know how confident I am. It’s a scam,” Green Garry remarked.
Despite these claims, a community note appended to the post emphasized that multiple news outlets have verified Buckingham’s organ failure, referencing detailed coverage by People and The Independent. As of now, Buckingham has not publicly addressed the viral video or the allegations contained within it.
Buckingham Details Health Struggles Amid Hospitalization
In a separate video obtained by People magazine, Buckingham shared an update on his ongoing health crisis. The Maryland native revealed that his heart’s ejection fraction has decreased, a condition classified as congestive heart failure. He further disclosed that he is simultaneously battling pneumonia, kidney and liver failure, and a viral-induced form of heart failure known as coxsackievirus.
Speaking candidly, Buckingham admitted fear for his life and concern for his family, particularly his 11-month-old daughter. “I’m afraid of what’s going to happen,” he said. “I have an 11-month-old daughter. I just want to not be dead, you know what I mean?”
GoFundMe Fundraiser Surpasses $300,000
The GoFundMe campaign, initiated four days ago, details Buckingham’s sudden health decline, beginning with swelling in his feet and pain that led to ICU admission. Initially, he suspected pneumonia, sepsis, or tuberculosis as the underlying causes.
Medical guidance suggests Buckingham may require several months of bed rest. In his fundraiser, he explained that the financial support will assist with baby supplies and covering a $100,000 medical debt. As of now, the campaign has collected over $300,000 in donations.
