Dr. Wardah: Missing doctor’s body recovered in Thandiani forest
A wave of grief has hit Abbottabad and nearby areas after the body of Dr. Wardah Mushtaq, who went missing from DHQ Hospital in Abbottabad, was found in the forests of Lari Banota, Thandiani.
Police took the body into custody, and identification and forensic checks are underway. Initial evidence and suspects’ confessions confirm that the body is that of Dr. Wardah.
Dr. Wardah had left the hospital a few days earlier with a close friend, carrying 67 tolas of gold entrusted to her. Police have arrested the main suspects: Rida, her husband Waheed Billa, and an accomplice, Nadeem. Raids are ongoing to catch the remaining accused.
Questions on Police Handling
Early investigations showed that the former SHO of Cantt Police Station had released the main suspects prematurely and did not inform the DPO for two days, drawing heavy criticism. After DPO intervention, the suspects were re-arrested.
During interrogation, Rida admitted that she took Dr. Wardah from DHQ Hospital to a house in Jadoon Plaza, where dangerous criminals were present. Later, Dr. Wardah was moved in a Suzuki vehicle by Nadeem and the gang leader Shamrez to an unknown location. Police believe Dr. Wardah was murdered.
Protests and Demands
The Doctors’ Association has protested Dr. Wardah’s death and suspended all medical services at Abbottabad DHQ Hospital. Doctors and paramedical staff are also protesting in Haripur, blocking Dhenda Road. They demand that a terrorism case be registered against the killers and that the DPO Abbottabad and the hospital’s Medical Superintendent be suspended.
Public and Family Reaction
Dr. Wardah’s family is in deep shock, and local residents are calling for swift justice. Police have said that key updates will be shared soon, but the recovery of the body and ongoing searches have caused fear and unrest in the community.
