Lionel Messi’s sister, Maria Sol Messi, has been involved in a serious car accident in Miami, which has forced her to postpone her wedding to Julian “Tuli” Arellano, a member of the coaching staff for Inter Miami’s Under-19 team. The accident, which occurred when Maria Sol lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a wall, left her with significant injuries, including spinal fractures and burns.
Argentine TV journalist Angel de Brito revealed that despite the severity of her injuries, Messi’s mother, Celia Cuccittini, assured him that Maria Sol is “out of danger” but will require a long period of rehabilitation. De Brito stated, “I asked her mum Celia Cuccittini… she told me it’s true but that Maria Sol is okay.” According to reports, Maria Sol suffered two fractured vertebrae, as well as a fractured heel and wrist, in addition to burns, which are notably challenging to treat.
Maria Sol was due to marry Julian Arellano on January 3, in the city of Rosario, Argentina, where both she and Messi’s family are originally from. However, the wedding plans will now be delayed as she begins her recovery. Her mother confirmed the wedding postponement, adding that Maria Sol had fainted before the crash occurred.
Initially, there were reports suggesting that Maria Sol had been driving a pick-up truck, but Angel de Brito had earlier speculated, after speaking to the family, that her burns might have been from a motorbike accident. However, this theory has not been verified.
Despite the challenging circumstances, Maria Sol’s recovery appears to be progressing. She has already begun her rehabilitation in Rosario, her hometown, where she is expected to spend time recovering before rescheduling the wedding.
The incident is also a source of concern for Lionel Messi, who was set to attend his sister’s wedding along with his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, and the rest of the Messi family. Maria Sol and her fiancé, Julian, have known each other since childhood, growing up in the same neighborhood.
Maria Sol, who works as a clothing designer and entrepreneur, has kept a relatively low profile compared to her famous brother, Lionel. She previously spent time in Spain before returning to Argentina to pursue her own business ventures, including a role at The Messi Store, where she worked alongside Virginia Hilfiger, the sister of renowned designer Tommy Hilfiger.
Despite the setback, it is hoped that Maria Sol will recover fully and be able to celebrate her special day once her health has improved.
