New image of 3I/ATLAS reveals surprising stability – check here

02 January, 2026 13:59

A new image of the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS, captured by the Hubble Space Telescope, has challenged previous expectations. The image, reprocessed by independent analyst Ammar A. of SpaceTracker, offers a fresh perspective that shows the object in a way we havenโ€™t seen before.

Instead of the object breaking apart, as many thought it would, the 3I/ATLAS shows a surprising level of stability and continuity. The objectโ€™s nucleus is still intensely bright and well-defined, with a smooth transition to a blue ionized region followed by a broad orange dust cloud.

In typical comet behavior, the exposure to solar radiation causes them to weaken and break apart, but that is not happening here. The expected fragmentation and chaotic outgassing are absent, making 3I/ATLAS stand out from other comets.

This new perspective reveals persistent structure and energy, raising questions about the objectโ€™s unique behavior that doesnโ€™t fit into the usual comet models.
