Elon Musk’s Starlink Announces Free Internet Service for Venezuela
Billionaire Elon Musk’s satellite internet company, Starlink, has announced that it will provide free internet service in Venezuela for a limited period.
According to international media reports, the initiative comes at a time when Venezuela is facing severe political unrest, military operations, and widespread internet shutdowns.
Starlink has stated that it will offer free broadband internet service in Venezuela “until February 3,” aiming to keep the Venezuelan population connected to the online world and provide unrestricted access to information in a country where internet restrictions have recently intensified.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Starlink said the company remains committed to “continuous engagement” with Venezuela. The statement also highlighted that Venezuela is among the countries where online censorship has become a serious issue, severely restricting citizens’ access to information.
Starlink reminded that under President Nicolás Maduro, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and other social media platforms have been blocked at various times, significantly affecting public voice, journalism, and free expression.
Media reports indicate that following recent military operations and political developments, internet service has been completely disrupted in several parts of Venezuela. In the capital Caracas and other major cities, most residents currently lack internet access, impacting daily life, business operations, and communication systems.
Analysts note that Starlink’s free internet initiative is not only a technological measure but also a humanitarian and solidarity gesture, arriving at a moment when Venezuelans urgently need access to independent information and global connectivity.
