Michael Schumacher Death Hoax Sparks Confusion: Meet Wife Corinna and Their Family
Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher has once again been the center of global attention due to widespread confusion over his health. For clarification, it was author Michael Schumacher, renowned for his biographies, who passed away on December 29, 2025, at the age of 75. The news was confirmed by his daughter, Emily Joy Schumacher. The exact cause of his death has not been disclosed.
The similarity of names between the author and the seven-time Formula 1 world champion sparked false reports on social media, with tributes flooding in for the racing icon. Amid the misinformation, attention has turned to Schumacher’s family, particularly his wife, Corinna Schumacher.
Who is Michael Schumacher’s wife, Corinna Schumacher?
Born Corinna Betsch on March 2, 1969, in Halver, Germany, Corinna Schumacher is a sporting champion, professional equestrian, and animal rights activist. In 2010, she won the European Western-style Horse Riding Championship. Corinna also serves as a PETA spokesperson and owns two horse ranches, one in Texas and another in Switzerland. She married Michael Schumacher in 1995 after meeting him in 1991, and the couple has two children: Gina Maria, born February 20, 1997, now a successful equestrian, and Mick, born March 22, 1999, who followed his father into motorsport and competed in Formula 1 during the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
Reflecting on their marriage, Michael once said, “It’s because we share the same values. During all the time I was racing, she was my guardian angel.” Corinna became a pillar of strength for Michael following his 2013 skiing accident in the French Alps, which left him with a severe brain injury and in a medically induced coma. Speaking in the 2021 Netflix documentary Schumacher, Corinna said:
“Michael is here. Different, but he’s here, and that gives us strength, I find. We’re together. We live together at home. We do therapy. We do everything we can to make Michael better and to make sure he’s comfortable, and to simply make him feel our family, our bond. And no matter what, I will do everything I can. We all will. We’re trying to carry on as a family, the way Michael liked it and still does. And we are getting on with our lives. ‘Private is private’, as he always said. Michael always protected us, and now we are protecting Michael.”
Michael had retired from Formula 1 in 2012 but was enjoying family life when the accident occurred. Corinna shared that just before the incident, he had said: “The snow isn’t optimal. We could fly to Dubai and go sky diving there.” This incident has not only highlighted Corinna’s dedication but also led to recurring death hoaxes about Schumacher, including one in April 2014 after his 2013 accident, which his manager later confirmed was false.
