After over seven years of marriage and a child together, comedian Amy Schumer has officially filed for divorce from her husband, Chris Fischer. Rumors of marital strain had circulated toward the end of 2025, which Schumer initially dismissed, but the split was publicly confirmed in December.
Court records from New York County show that Schumer filed for divorce on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, just weeks before what would have been the couple’s eighth wedding anniversary on February 13.
The comedian-actress shared in December that the separation was “amicable” and emphasized that the family would remain their priority. She stated:
“Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years. We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son. We would appreciate people respecting our privacy at this time.”
Amy, 44, and Fischer, 45, share a six-year-old son, Gene. The couple has filed for an uncontested divorce, with no disputes over finances, property, or custody. Reports indicate that both parents continued living under the same roof after their split to maintain stability for Gene, highlighting their commitment to co-parenting.
Sources suggest there was no single dramatic reason for the separation. While speculation arose around Schumer’s weight loss and Fischer’s career as a James Beard Award-winning chef, the split was reportedly due to growing emotional distance and lifestyle differences.
Schumer and Fischer met in 2017 through Fischer’s sister, married in a surprise Malibu ceremony in February 2018, and welcomed Gene in May 2019. Schumer has previously discussed how Fischer’s autism spectrum disorder influenced their marriage, sharing insights through her Netflix special Growing and Hulu series Life & Beth, portraying relationships with honesty and respect. Despite the divorce, the breakup remains amicable, with both living largely separate lives before the official confirmation.
