Sean Swayze Cause of Death: What Happened to Patrick Swayze’s Brother?

Patrick Swayze’s younger brother, Sean Swayze, has passed away, with the cause of death now confirmed. TMZ reported the news on January 7, 2026 (ET), and the information was further corroborated by Sean’s son, who revealed that his father had actually passed away days earlier, on December 17, 2025.

According to Sean Swayze’s death certificate, obtained by TMZ from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, the 63-year-old “died of an acute upper gastrointestinal bleed and severe metabolic acidosis brought on by cirrhosis of the liver.” The certificate also lists Sean’s daughter, Cassie Swayze, as the informant and confirms his cremation on December 19, 2025, handled by Valley of Peace Cremation and Burial.

Born on October 13, 1962, in Texas to Jesse Wayne Swayze and Yvonne Carnes, Sean Swayze served in the U.S. Army and spent over three decades working as a teamster in the entertainment industry. A widower, he resided in Lancaster, Los Angeles, and is survived by his brother Don Swayze and three children: Cassie, Kyle, and Jesse Swayze.

Earlier, Sean’s cousin, Rachel Leon, shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, posting a picture of Sean wearing a Dirty Dancing crawfish-themed T-shirt designed to honor Patrick Swayze. She wrote:

“I’m heartbroken to share that my cousin Sean Swayze passed away today. This is a picture he took recently for us to promote the Dirty Dancing crawfish theme. My daughter, a marketing manager, came up with this idea to honor our late cousin, Patrick Swayze. We sent the T-shirts to Sean, who wore them proudly for us. He was always fun and full of life.”

Rachel added that Sean had planned to visit Texas recently, but “fate had different plans.” She extended her condolences to Sean’s family, saying:

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his brother Don Swayze and his children, Cassie Swayze, Kyle and Jesse Swayze. We are praying hard for the entire family during this difficult time. Please know that we love you and are always here for you. Sean, I love you so much, and we will miss you dearly.”
