Who was Timmy Ray Macklin Jr? Meet Renee Nicole Good's Ex-Husband & Kids Amid Death By ICE Shooting
Just days into the new year, a tragic incident in Minneapolis has drawn nationwide attention after a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, Renee Nicole Good, was killed during an immigration enforcement operation. The fatal shooting occurred on January 7, 2026, ET, around 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of East 34th Street and Portland Avenue, a snowy residential area in south Minneapolis. Renee was reportedly caught in the wrong place at the wrong time and was shot in the presence of her partner.
According to bystander footage, three Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents surrounded Renee’s vehicle and ordered her to exit. As she reversed and attempted to turn away, an agent positioned near the front-left of the car fired three shots through the windshield. Renee was struck in the head, causing her vehicle to crash into a nearby light pole. She was rushed to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The incident has sparked intense controversy, with conflicting narratives emerging from federal and local authorities. Videos shared with law enforcement and media outlets show the chaotic aftermath, including Renee’s distraught partner and the vehicle’s backseat filled with children’s toys. Renee’s young child was reportedly at school at the time of the shooting.
In footage recorded moments after the incident, a woman identifying herself as Renee’s spouse was seen crying near the wreckage, repeatedly pleading for help. Witnesses described her as inconsolable. In the video, she can be heard saying:
“That’s my wife, I don’t know what to do!…I have a six-year-old at school… we’re new here we don’t have anyone…We need a doctor.”
Renee Nicole Good was originally from Colorado Springs and lived in the Twin Cities with her partner. Her mother, Donna Ganger, described her daughter as deeply compassionate and caring. Speaking to the Minnesota Star Tribune, she said:
“Renee was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known. She was extremely compassionate. She’s taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate. She was an amazing human being.”
Renee reportedly had three children, including a six-year-old son from her previous marriage to Timmy Ray Macklin Jr., who died in 2023. Following her death, the child’s grandfather has sought custody, though it remains unclear whether Renee’s partner will contest the move.
Federal officials from the Department of Homeland Security, including Secretary Kristi Noem, described the incident as “domestic terrorism,” alleging Renee “weaponised her vehicle.” Former President Donald Trump referred to her as a “professional agitator.” Local leaders, including Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, strongly rejected those claims, calling them “garbage.” Renee’s mother also disputed the federal narrative, stating her daughter was likely “probably terrified” and not involved in any organised protest.
The case continues to fuel debate over the use of force during federal operations and has intensified calls for transparency and accountability.
