NDMA Issues Nationwide Weather Alert as Met Office Forecasts Rain, Strong Winds, and Thunderstorms Across Pakistan
The Met Office has forecast rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in several parts of Pakistan, as the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a formal weather alert urging citizens to take necessary precautions.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), rain is expected in parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and the Gilgit-Baltistan region. Some areas of north-eastern and southern Balochistan may also receive rain with strong winds and thunderstorms, posing additional risks to local communities.
The NDMA has cautioned against “slippery roads and low visibility” during the wet spell. The authority has also warned of potential “impact at the power system and vulnerable infrastructure owing to strong winds.” Citizens have been advised to “avoid unnecessary travel and observe caution” during this period.
Looking ahead at the broader seasonal outlook, the Pakistan Meteorological Department in its forecast for the 2026 monsoon season has predicted “below-normal rainfall in most parts of the country during its June to August weather outlook.” However, northern regions tell a different story. The Met Office stated that “the northern regions, including Gilgit-Baltistan, adjoining areas of northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir are expected to receive near-normal to slightly above-normal rainfall.”
On the temperature front, conditions are set to remain harsh, with the Met Office confirming that “temperatures are expected to remain above normal throughout the country from July to September 2026,” raising further concerns about heat stress and water scarcity across the nation.
Authorities continue to monitor the evolving weather situation and urge the public to stay updated through official channels.
