MINNEAPOLIS, January 7, 2026: New details have emerged about the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer involved in the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good in south Minneapolis. The incident took place during a large federal immigration operation involving nearly 2,000 agents and has triggered widespread protests and national debate.

The ICE officer has been identified as Jonathan Ross, according to media reports. Ross, born in 1982, is a long-serving ICE agent with more than ten years of experience. He is part of ICE’s Special Response Team under Enforcement and Removal Operations and is based in the Minneapolis–St. Paul area.

Investigative reporting, including a report by The Intercept, suggests Ross has a military background. The outlet reported that a social media post linked to a person identified as his father showed a photograph of a man holding an assault weapon with the caption “Jon Ross in Iraq.” The individual in the photo reportedly resembles the ICE agent involved in the Minneapolis incident. These details are based on media findings and have not been officially confirmed.

According to reports, Ross previously lived near Fort Bliss, a major U.S. Army base in New Mexico, and later near El Paso, Texas. Media outlets have chosen not to publicly identify his father, citing safety and privacy concerns amid heightened public anger following the shooting.

Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, was shot during an ICE operation around 9:30 a.m. near East 34th Street and Portland Avenue. Video footage shows agents surrounding her vehicle and ordering her to exit. As she attempted to drive away, an agent fired multiple shots through the windshield.

Good was struck in the head and later died at the hospital. Her car was seen containing children’s toys, and reports state her six-year-old son was at school at the time of the incident. The shooting has led to protests, with community leaders demanding accountability and calling for ICE operations to end in Minneapolis.

Federal authorities say the incident remains under review, while local officials and activists continue to demand transparency and justice.
