Trump Orders 5-Day Delay on Strikes Targeting Iranian Power Plants
In a statement released on social media, US President Donald Trump said that he is pleased to report that very positive and productive talks have taken place between the United States and Iran over the past two days, aimed at finding a complete and final resolution to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
Trump said that in light of these deep, detailed, and constructive discussions, I have directed the War Department to postpone any military action against Iran’s power plants and energy infrastructure for 5 days.
The US president said that this decision would be conditional on the success of ongoing meetings and negotiations.
He further said that these negotiations with Iranian authorities will continue throughout the week.
It should be noted that Trump had threatened to open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours. Trump had said that if the Strait of Hormuz is opened within 48 hours, they will attack power plants. Trump’s 48-hour deadline to open the Strait of Hormuz to Iran was ending today.
Iran responded by saying it would respond to the attack with attacks on power plants and water purification plants in Gulf countries.
US media say that Trump’s announcement is the first formal confirmation of talks to end Operation Epic Fury.
