Afghan Minorities Face Growing Fear Under Taliban Rule
The Christian community in Afghanistan is forced to live in a state of constant fear and oppression under the current Taliban regime. A British journal has exposed the atrocities and severe injustices committed against minority groups under this administration. According to the British newspaper Church Times, the return of the Taliban has completely transformed public life in Afghanistan, resulting in the total abolition of religious freedoms for the Christian community.
There is no longer a single public church in Afghanistan, and Christians are not recognized as a minority community in official records. Due to fear of the Taliban, Afghan Christians are forced to lead double lives, worshipping in secret to avoid persecution. Under this oppressive regime, the Christian community is also systematically deprived of government employment and access to medical treatment.
The population of other minorities has also decreased rapidly. In recent years, a significant number of Sikhs and Hindus have fled Afghanistan. According to experts, since the Taliban took power, religious and ethnic minorities—especially the Christian community—have faced severe pressure, pervasive insecurity, and extreme social restrictions.
