China Condemns “Illegitimate” War on Iran During High-Level Talks with Foreign Minister Araghchi in Beijing
China has hosted Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Beijing for high-level diplomatic talks, where Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi strongly criticized the ongoing US-Israeli military actions against Iran, calling the war “illegitimate” and urging an immediate and complete ceasefire.
During the meeting, Wang Yi emphasized the urgency of de-escalation in West Asia, stating: “We are prepared to continue efforts to reduce the intensity of tensions. A complete ceasefire is necessary and unavoidable.”
He further condemned the military operations by the United States and Israel, adding that “the region is passing through a decisive turning point and direct meetings between the parties are essential.”
Iran’s foreign minister Araghchi expressed appreciation for China’s stance, particularly its criticism of Washington and Tel Aviv. He described China as a trusted partner and emphasized that bilateral cooperation would continue to grow under current geopolitical conditions.
Araghchi labeled the conflict as “an open aggression and a gross violation of international law.” He also stated that Iran would pursue negotiations firmly to protect its national interests, adding that Tehran seeks only a “fair and comprehensive agreement.”
The Iranian delegation arrived in Beijing amid ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two nations, following multiple recent communications between Iranian and Chinese officials since the escalation of conflict in late February.
Chinese officials reiterated support for diplomacy and praised Iran’s resilience, while also calling for an end to hostilities.
The visit comes at a strategically sensitive moment, just ahead of major international diplomatic meetings involving the United States and China, with analysts noting that Tehran and Beijing appear to be aligning positions on global negotiations.
China has also recently opposed US-led pressure on Iran at the United Nations, including vetoing resolutions and resisting sanctions-related measures.
The United States, meanwhile, continues to push for international support on maritime security and sanctions enforcement, while tensions remain high over the Strait of Hormuz and regional security dynamics.
Analysts warn that the ongoing conflict could complicate broader US-China diplomatic relations, as both global powers compete over influence in the region while managing Iran-related tensions.
