Trump’s White House Ballroom Funding Faces Setback After Senate Decision
A Senate official in the U.S. has stopped a Part of a spending package tied to security funding for Trump’s proposed $400 million White House ballroom
Elizabeth MacDonough, Senate parliamentarian stated that funding for the project’s security cannot be part of the massive spending bill. This decision is seen as a hurdle for Republican efforts to secure government money for the project.
According to Trump, the ballroom itself will be financed by private donations, Senate Republicans were trying to allocate about $1 billion in taxpayer funds for Secret Service security upgrades connected to it. Republicans sturdily contrasting the move, calling it pointless and inefficient.
Democrats, who maintain a 53–47 majority in the U.S. Senate, are attempting to pass the spending bill using special budget rules without Democratic support. Nevertheless, they still need agreement from the parliamentarian and sufficient votes under Senate rules, which generally necessitate 60 votes for major regulation.
The bigger $72 billion budget primarily concentrations on immigration implementation. If Republicans fail to regulate the proposal, the ballroom-related funding may be removed.
Democrats argue the project is expensive and out of touch with current economic pressures in the U.S, while Trump has presented it as a modern addition to the White House that would expand safety and accommodating conveniences.
The project has also faced legal challenges from preservation groups concerned about changes to the historic White House structure.
