Iran Warns; Any Country Supporting Aggression Will Face Consequences as Tehran Vows Strong Response

09 July, 2026 12:47

Iran has warned that any country found to be complicit in military aggression against it, including European nations, will face retaliation, as Tehran continues to defend what it describes as its sovereignty and national security interests.

Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian Parliament’s Foreign Policy and National Security Commission, made the remarks while speaking to international journalists in Mashhad during the funeral ceremonies of martyred leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Azizi said Iran had repeatedly warned European countries not to allow themselves to become tools of foreign powers and urged them to pursue independent policies instead of supporting actions against Iran.

He said that if it was confirmed that Italy had allowed its territory to be used for military operations against Iran, Tehran would respond with a strong and decisive reaction. According to Azizi, any country permitting its territory to be used for attacks against Iran would be considered involved in aggression.

The remarks came following the recent US-Israeli military campaign against Iran, during which Iran said martyred Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and other senior officials were killed, while damage was caused to civilian and scientific facilities across the country.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte had reportedly stated that US forces used Italian military facilities during operations against Iran. However, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani rejected the claim in a conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Iran Maintains Readiness Amid Rising Tensions

Despite the country being focused on mourning ceremonies for its martyred leader, Azizi said Iran remained prepared to defend itself against any threat.

He warned that any violation of a ceasefire agreement or any attempt to undermine Iran’s security would receive a powerful response. According to Azizi, Iran’s response would go beyond expectations if faced with further aggression.

He added that renewed conflict would not serve the interests of ordinary Americans and suggested that continued confrontation was being driven by political decisions rather than public interest.

Azizi also warned that continued violations could lead to serious regional consequences, including possible action involving the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy route. He said any disruption caused by such developments would be the responsibility of those escalating tensions.

Iran Rejects Claims of Foreign Pressure Over Negotiations

Addressing questions regarding China’s role in Iran’s diplomatic decisions, Azizi said Tehran does not accept pressure from either allies or adversaries when national interests are at stake.

He said China had never forced Iran to take any action against its own interests. According to Azizi, Pakistan played a role in encouraging Iran to participate in negotiations and was viewed by Tehran as a trusted and brotherly nation.

However, he stressed that Pakistan should also hold the United States accountable for any violations of agreements, while adding that Iran does not want any country to be used as a tool for foreign military objectives.

Azizi said Iran was prepared for any scenario and claimed that the era of threatening Iran had ended. He added that any attack against Iran would face a response stronger than the initial action.

Tehran Calls for Regional Independence

Discussing Iran’s relations with Persian Gulf countries, Azizi said Tehran continues to support greater regional cooperation and believes neighboring countries can achieve mutual security through dialogue and partnership.

He said Iran had repeatedly encouraged Gulf nations to strengthen cooperation rather than rely on external powers for security guarantees. However, he expressed concern that some countries had allowed their territory to be used during military operations against Iran.

Iranian officials have maintained that their responses are aimed at foreign military assets involved in operations against Iran and not against neighboring nations themselves.

The Iranian leadership continues to emphasize that its primary objective is defending national sovereignty, protecting its people, and preventing further foreign military pressure in the region.
