IRGC Navy Warns US Against Independent Maritime Routes in Strait of Hormuz

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy has warned that any attempt by the United States to establish independent maritime routes or escort vessels through the Strait of Hormuz could undermine regional security arrangements and threaten the interests of countries relying on the strategic waterway.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the IRGC Navy said that foreign forces have no role in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that “foreigners have no share in this land and the Strait of Hormuz.” The warning came after reports that the US was seeking to establish an alternative maritime route through the southern part of the strait and escort vessels outside Iran’s security arrangements.
Tehran described the reported US actions as a violation of regional understandings, including the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which Iran says gives it a central role in maritime security and navigation management in the waterway. The IRGC warned that any interference by the US military in determining shipping routes would draw a decisive response and could disrupt efforts toward reopening maritime traffic while putting the interests of countries using the Strait of Hormuz at risk.
