IED Attack on Indian Army Convoy in Nagaland Kills One Soldier, Injures Four
NAGALAND: At least one Indian soldier was killed and four others were injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) hit an Indian Army convoy in Nagaland, according to Indian media reports.
The reports said the explosive was planted along the route of an Assam Rifles convoy in the Sukhovi area. This was the second major attack by Naga insurgents within a week.
Indian media said the death toll could rise because some of the injured soldiers are in critical condition. Earlier, on July 6, two Indian soldiers were reportedly killed in an ambush in the Ukhrul district.
According to Indian media, insurgent groups, including the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the Manipur People’s Front (MPF), are active in the region and have been involved in armed attacks against Indian security forces. No group has claimed responsibility for the latest attack.
Following the blast, Indian security forces launched a search operation in Sukhovi and nearby areas.
The attack comes amid ongoing tensions in Naga-majority areas, where protests against the presence of Assam Rifles have continued for months. Indian media reported that hundreds of Naga women recently led demonstrations in Ukhrul, demanding the removal of an Assam Rifles post.
Political analysts say the latest attack highlights continuing security challenges and tensions in the region.
