Iran has accused the United States of committing war crimes through alleged attacks on civilian infrastructure, calling on the United Nations to hold Washington accountable.
In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, stated that the United States is “the aggressor, not the victim,” and alleged that deliberate attacks on civilian facilities constitute clear violations of international law.
According to Iran’s official news agency, Iravani wrote that Washington failed to honor its commitments immediately after signing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding with Tehran and had deliberately undermined the agreement.
The Iranian envoy claimed that Tehran has documented 42 alleged violations of the Islamabad agreement by the United States, describing them as serious breaches that threaten regional stability and international peace and security.
In the letter, Iravani argued that the repeated actions by Washington demonstrate a disregard for international law and called on the UN Secretary-General to take urgent notice of the situation.
He further alleged that US strikes targeting civilian infrastructure—including drinking water facilities and other non-military installations—constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity, and urged the United Nations to investigate the allegations and take appropriate action.
