India’s Failed Foreign Policy as US Tariff Bill Targets Russian Energy Buyers

02 August, 2026 10:54

India’s foreign policy is facing renewed scrutiny as its continued energy ties with Russia come under increasing pressure amid global sanctions and growing US trade measures. According to reports, New Delhi’s energy strategy is confronting fresh challenges against the backdrop of regional tensions in the Gulf and mounting pressure from Washington.

According to International media, a bill approved by the US Senate could expose countries purchasing significant volumes of Russian energy to higher tariffs, with India facing the possibility of tariffs rising to as much as 100 percent if the legislation is implemented as proposed. As one of the largest importers of Russian crude oil, India is viewed as one of the countries most affected by the measure.

A US senator cited in the reports said India is among the most prominent countries likely to be impacted by the proposed legislation because of its continued purchases of Russian energy. The developments have intensified debate over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy, with critics arguing that India’s balancing strategy between major global powers is facing increasing economic and diplomatic challenges where hate policies have already exposed current extremist regime in India.
