US Launches Probe Into Airspace Incident Involving Trump’s Helicopter

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating a possible airspace safety incident involving President Donald Trump’s helicopter, Marine One, and a commercial passenger plane near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

The incident happened on Tuesday as Trump left the White House for a trip to California. Marine One was flying to Joint Base Andrews while commercial flights were operating nearby.

The FAA said the two aircraft were involved in a “loss of separation” event, meaning they may have come closer than the required safe distance.

The investigation comes after the FAA introduced stricter helicopter rules around Reagan National Airport following a deadly mid-air crash in January 2025 that killed 67 people.

Under current procedures, air traffic controllers are usually informed before Marine One takes off so nearby commercial flights can be stopped if needed.

In a separate incident, authorities arrested an armed man outside Trump National Golf Club in California before Trump’s planned visit.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department identified the suspect as 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele. He was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed firearm and possessing prohibited ammunition.

Authorities said Taele was taking photos and videos around the property and appeared to be watching security activities.

After searching his home, investigators found weapons, ammunition, body armor, radio devices, and notebooks containing what officials described as concerning statements.

Taele pleaded not guilty to the weapons charges and a separate robbery charge. Officials said it is still unclear whether the robbery case is linked to the golf club incident.

The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and the US Secret Service are helping with the investigation. Officials said there is currently no credible threat to the public.
