Karachi- Three people were injured in an explosion in a sewerage line in Mahmudabad on Friday.
A statement from Mahmudabad Station House Officer Ejaz Pathan said that due to accumulation of gas, there was an explosion in a sewerage line at Parsi Gate. According to the statement, a motorcycle mechanic’s shop located on the sewerage line also collapsed.
It said that three people suffered minor injuries and were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center for treatment. A bomb disposal team was also called to the spot and the matter is being investigated.
A statement from the Edhi Foundation identified the three injured as Bilal, 17, Dilawar, 20 and John, 11. All three were taken to the hospital in an ambulance of the rescue service.
A regional police officer said the Site-B police registered an FIR of the incident against “the persons responsible for the construction of the building and its owner” under various charges, including murder.
Earlier on October 29, four people were killed and nine others were injured in an explosion at the North Nazimabad petrol pump. Police later said that a short circuit inside a closed electrical room of a fuel station with no vents, combined with the accumulation of gases, appeared to have caused the major explosion.
This is the second blast in the city this month.
On 18 December, an explosion took place in a drain located under a private bank near Parcha Chowk in Shershah, killing 17 people. The bank was earlier given a notice to vacate the premises so that the drain could be cleaned.
