Farmers announce to come out on streets

05 May, 2024 16:34

The farmers have announced to come out on the streets against the  governments’ failure to procure wheat from them.

This was announced by Kissan Ittehad Chairman Khalid Khokhar while addressing a news conference today.

He said that the farmers would launch protests on May 10 from Multan.

The chairman said that the farmers cannot describe the pain they are currently suffering from while the mafia is making money by smuggling wheat.

Khokhar said that had 4.4 million tons of wheat from last year but despite the availability over 3.5 million tons  were imported.

The entire system was with the mafia. If a farmer does not have money, how will he produce cotton and rice? It has happened for the first time that wheat became expensive here while the same is cheap in the global market.

Khokhar alleged that rate of hoarded wheat increased to accommodate mafia, who did all this to benefit the private sector.

He recalled that former federal minister Dr. Kausar Abdullah had said there was no need to import wheat.
