Shah Mehmood Qureshi calls for revisiting the 18th amendment. 

Foreign Minister and a key leader of ruling PTI said this, while talking to the media at Parliament House in Islamabad on Monday.

He suggested 18th amendment should be revisited to run the country’s affairs effectively while keeping in view the resources of the country.

However, Shah Mehmood hasted to add that the PTI government never intends to abrogate the 18th amendment.

He further suggested provinces should mobilize their resources to lower their dependency on the centre.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi visited the proposed Foreign Services Academy at Old Chinese Embassy in Islamabad on Monday.

Director General Foreign Service Academy Nadeem Riaz and Additional Secretary Special Projects Muhammad Imran Mirza welcomed him.

Te FM visited different parts of the proposed Academy including library, study area, residential area, hostels and sports grounds.

He termed the renovation and repair work of the building as satisfactory and directed to complete it in the shortest possible time.

However, Opposition parties’ leaders opposed revisiting the 18th amendment.

PMLN leader and former minister Chaudhry Ahsan Iqbal cited that the 18th constitutional amendment came as a result of national consensus.

He warned that any attempts to meddle with it could engender further controversy.

Ahsan Iqbal asked reminded that all the parliamentary parties unanimously approved the amendment.

Hence he questioned the intention behind disturbing it, especially the timing of raising this issue now.
