OIC secretary general assures Pakistan of support against terrorism.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has reassured its support to Pakistan in its fight against terrorism.

OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousaf bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen gave this assurance during a video-link meeting of the Board of Trustees of International Islamic University Islamabad.

President Dr. Arif Alvi presided the meeting from Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad.

The OIC secretary general offered condolences over the loss of lives in the terrorist attack on Pakistan Stock Exchange in Karachi.

He thanked the Government of Pakistan for offering 100 scholarships to the students of 15 under-developed countries.

The meeting unanimously approved Dr. Hathal bin Hamoud Al-Otaibi as the IIUI president.

Earlier, Otaibi was serving at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

President Dr. Arif Alvi while terming the IIUI a great center of learning, said the institution is providing students a balance of contemporary education along with the knowledge about Sharia, Islamic history and culture.

On the other hand, OIC has called on UN Human Rights Council to equitably address human rights violations of people in conflict situations.

It referred to those conflict situations named on UN and the OIC agenda, including Kashmir and Palestine.

The OIC statement also delivered to Pakistani Ambassador Khalil Hashmi.

It also pointed to two other conflict situations on respective OIC and UN agendas, namely Myanmar and Nagorno-Karabakh the territorial dispute between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
