Govt gives green light to establish trail courts under PECA ACT
The federal government has approved the establishment of trial courts under The Prevention of Electronic Crimes (PECA) Act to tackle the elements spreading propaganda and hatred against state institutions on social media.
According to sources, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) information secretary Rauf Hassan will be trialed under the PECA Act.
The federal government has fulfilled the legal requirement for the trial of those arrested under the PECA Act.
Moreover, the cabinet approved the summary of the Law Ministry, under which additional district and sessions judges, civil judge East and West have been empowered to conduct the trial.
Rauf Hassan and others will be tried under the PECA Act, in the light of the June 2 decision of the Islamabad High Court, it has been approved to set up courts.
More arrests are likely to be made under the PECA Act, and would go through speedy trials.
In other provinces, judges will be nominated in consultation with the chief justices of the respective high courts.
