Rain emergency declared in Karachi
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab on Saturday imposed a rain emergency after Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted heavy downpours in Sindh and other parts of the country.
“Rain emergency has been imposed in the metropolis to deal with the post-rain situation,” he said in a statement.
The mayor suspended the leaves of all concerned staffers to cope with the expected rains in Karachi.
Earlier in the day, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rains in different cities of the country today (Saturday).
In its forecast, the met department said that weather is likely to remain hot and humid in most parts of the country, but rain and thundershowers are expected at a few places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, southeast, central Sindh, northeast Punjab, Potohar region and Kashmir.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at a few places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and southeast Sindh during this period.
Hot and humid weather is expected in most districts of Punjab, but rain or thundershowers are expected at a few places in Murree, Galiat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Mianwali, Sargodha, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot and Narowal.
According to the met office, hot and humid weather is expected in Islamabad and surrounding areas, while the weather will be partly cloudy.
