Decision taken to hike tuition fees of universities

The British government has decided to increase the tuition fees of universities.
According to a foreign news agency, the Education Secretary said that the tuition fee will increase according to inflation from April 2025. He added that the fee will increase by £285 to 9,535 pounds.
Media reports indicated that tuition fees were frozen at a maximum of £9,250 from 2017.
On the other hand, students at the University of Leeds said that the hike in tuition fees will badly affect poor students.
Moreover, the National Students’ Union has termed the increase in tuition fees as a major setback.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer had said he wanted to abolish tuition fees altogether when he ran for the Labour Party leadership back in 2020.
However, in 2023, Starmer said Labour Party was likely to move on from the pledge.
Starmer confirmed he would be doing so as he wanted to prioritise spending on the NHS in this year’s general election campaign.
