Pakistan thump Zimbabwe by 10 wickets to clinch T20I series
Pakistan secured a dominant 10-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the second T20I of the three-match series, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead.
The match was defined by a record-breaking performance from left-arm spinner Sufiyan Muqeem, who claimed remarkable bowling figures of 5/3, dismantling Zimbabwe’s batting line-up.
Zimbabwe, opting to bat first after winning the toss, were bowled out for a mere 57 runs, their lowest total in T20I cricket.
The hosts initially made a solid start, with openers Brian Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani putting on a 37-run partnership.
However, the tide quickly turned as Abbas Afridi dismissed Marumani for 16 runs in the fifth over, followed by Bennett’s dismissal off Haris Rauf for 21.
Zimbabwe’s middle and lower order collapsed dramatically, losing their remaining eight wickets for just 20 runs.
Muqeem’s devastating spell saw him remove key players, including Sikandar Raza (3), Dion Myers (3), Ryan Burl (1), Tashinga Musekiwa (0), Wellington Masakadza (3), Richard Ngarava (0), and finally Clive Madande (9). He finished with career-best figures of 5/3 in just 2.4 overs.
Chasing a modest target of 58 runs, Pakistan’s openers, Saim Ayub and Omair Bin Yousuf, made light work of the chase.
Ayub remained unbeaten on 36 from 18 balls, while Yousuf contributed 22* from 15 balls. Pakistan reached the target in just 5.3 overs, sealing a comfortable win without losing a wicket.
With this commanding victory, Pakistan secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, with the final T20I scheduled for December 5 at the same venue.
