South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen fined

20 December, 2024 17:59

South Africa player Heinrich Klaasen has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second ODI against Pakistan in Cape Town on Thursday.

Klaasen was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”

In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to Klaasen’s disciplinary record, for whom it was the first offence in a 24-month period.

The incident occurred after the last ball of the match, when Klaasen kicked the stumps on his dismissal.

Klaasen admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

Moreover, he was involved in a verbal spat with Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan.

This rare incident occurred during the second ODI between Pakistan and South Africa, where captain Mohammad Rizwan seemed unhappy with Heinrich Klaasen.

The verbal spat broke out in the 26th over of South Africa’s innings, with both players exchanged some words which made the match sensational.

Haris Rauf bounced Klaasen on the last ball of the over, which provoked him and thus there was a verbal altercation, but the intervention of the umpires and players saved the middle.

Though, Babar Azam intervened and separated the duo, who escaped without any sanction from the umpires and the match referee.

Klaasen scored 97 off 74 balls, but he fell to Naseem Shah and could not even win the team.
