Five Pakistani Taekwondo Athletes Win Medals in Singapore

Five young Pakistani taekwondo athletes returned from Singapore this week with five medals between them, a clean sweep of the podium that puts a small but growing national program on an international stage typically dominated by larger federations.

The results came at the Taekwondo Grand Slam Youth League – Singapore 2026, held at Our Tampines Hub, which drew competitors from more than 13 countries. Qadeer Khan, Wajahat Ali Khan and Arham Munaf each won gold in their respective categories, while Ian Meraj and Syed Ahmad Ayaz took bronze — a medal count that put multiple Pakistani athletes on the top step of an event built specifically to test emerging talent against regional and international competition.

The venue itself carries some weight. Singapore’s edition of the Grand Slam Youth League is one of the few stops in the series held outside China, where the World Taekwondo Wuxi Centre runs most of the circuit — meaning Pakistan’s athletes were competing against a genuinely international field rather than a regional showcase. Now in its second year, the Singapore leg has positioned itself as an expanding fixture on the youth taekwondo calendar, adding categories and side events this edition to draw a wider mix of clubs.

Pakistan’s taekwondo program has quietly built a track record on stages like this. The federation, based in Rawalpindi and affiliated with World Taekwondo since the 1980s, has produced multiple-medal performances at regional championships in recent years, including a since-noted sweep by three siblings at a Malaysian tournament last year. What’s notable about Singapore is the ratio: five athletes, five medals, no wasted trips — a hit rate that outperforms what most national programs manage at Grand Slam-tier youth events.

None of this changes taekwondo’s position in Pakistan’s broader sports funding picture, where cricket, hockey and increasingly combat sports still dominate federation attention and resources. A youth medal haul in Singapore won’t shift that balance on its own. But it does give the Pakistan Taekwondo Federation something concrete to point to as it argues for more support ahead of the next cycle of regional and world qualifiers, where these same athletes — and the training pipeline behind them — will face a harder test of whether Singapore was a breakthrough or an outlier.
