Trump returns to White House as 47th US president

20 January, 2025 22:25

Donald Trump has sworn in as the 47th president of the US, ushering in another four-year term in the White House.

In his inaugural address, Trump pledged to “reclaim” America, stating he had a mandate to reverse what he described as a betrayal of the American people. He promised to bring back “faith, wealth, democracy, and freedom” to the nation under his leadership.

Following the ceremony, Trump wasted no time in taking action, signing several executive orders aimed at reshaping the country’s policies.

These orders focus on tightening border security, expanding fossil fuel development, and dismantling diversity and inclusion programs across federal agencies.

Among the prominent attendees at the ceremony were tech industry leaders and billionaires such as Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Tim Cook, Sundar Pichai, and Elon Musk. Musk, in particular, is expected to play a significant role in advocating for cuts in federal spending and the reduction of federal employees during Trump’s administration.

Aides, even before Donald Trump was to take office, detailed a raft of executive actions, which he will sign immediately. The actions include 10 focused on border security and immigration, his top priority.

The inauguration completes after Trump survived two impeachment trials, a felony conviction, two assassination attempts and an indictment for attempting to overturn his 2020 election loss.

Earlier, Trump and her wife Melania Trump arrived at the White House, where Biden and first lady Jill Biden greeted them with handshakes.

Biden said: “Welcome home.”
