Pro-Imran tweets: Trump’s confidant believes Grenell was ‘misled’

29 January, 2025 21:28

Gentry Beach, head of the American investors’ delegation visiting Pakistan and a close business partner of the Trump family, has suggested that Richard Grenell, former U.S. Ambassador to Germany and senior advisor to President Donald Trump, was misled by deepfake technology in his recent comments about Pakistan.

Beach stated that Grenell’s views were based on his understanding of the country at the time but noted that his understanding has since improved.

In a conversation with journalists, Beach emphasised the significant investment opportunities available in Pakistan across various sectors, including artificial intelligence, real estate, and mining.

He also highlighted that under President Trump, a new era of relations with Pakistan has begun.

Beach further stated that the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and the U.S. requires a clear understanding and resolution of misconceptions about Pakistan, which he said had been misrepresented in the past.

Addressing the Biden administration’s handling of Pakistan over the past four years, Beach criticized the approach as “inappropriate,” noting that a new era of peace and development was underway globally, with the U.S. eager to invest billions of dollars in Pakistan. He also remarked that the current leadership of Pakistan is aligned with the new U.S. administration’s approach.

Beach clarified that he did not visit Pakistan to discuss the situation regarding former Prime Minister Imran Khan, but to reinforce that the Trump administration respects Pakistan’s current political leadership.

He further added that Grenell, who had previously tweeted about Khan’s release, now has a better understanding of the situation in Pakistan, and Beach claimed Grenell had been shown deepfake AI presentations that led to his earlier misconceptions.

It is noteworthy that newly elected US President Donald Trump had appointed Grenell, a foreign policy expert and former intelligence chief, as a special envoy for presidential missions.

Grenell had posted several tweets about Imran Khan’s release, but the persistent calls for his release from Khan’s supporters left him irritated, leading to an outburst at a user.
