Pakistan launches ‘Pak ID’ app for faster visa processing

Pakistan has introduced the ‘Pak ID’ app to streamline the visa-on-arrival process for travelers from 120 eligible countries. Developed by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), the app allows users to apply for business and tourist visas and track their applications in real time.

The new system significantly reduces wait times, with visa approvals now taking just 24 hours for eligible applicants.

Features of the ‘Pak ID’ App

The ‘Pak ID’ app offers advanced features such as face recognition, document scanning, and photo upload, allowing travelers to complete their visa applications entirely from their mobile devices without visiting any office.

As part of Pakistan’s digital transformation, this app complements the existing e-visa system, which already grants e-visas to citizens from 192 countries. International visitors can now receive notifications and real-time status updates on their visas directly on their smartphones.

While the app currently supports Visa Prior to Arrival (VPA) applications, other visa types remain available through the Pakistan Online Visa System (POVS) website.

Additional Initiatives for Public Services

In a separate move, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi inaugurated a 24/7 passport office at NADRA’s Mega Centre in Karachi, improving accessibility for the public. Additionally, Pakistan has granted visas to Indian journalists covering the ICC Champions Trophy, ensuring smooth media coverage of the tournament.

The ‘Pak ID’ app is expected to enhance Pakistan’s global connectivity, attracting more tourists and business travelers while reducing visa processing delays and improving convenience.
