Latest update on health of ailing Pope Francis

The health of Pope Francis, the head of Catholic Church, has deteriorated.

The Vatican said in a statement that Pope Francis’ health has worsened compared to the previous day.

The Vatican further said that Pope Francis is having difficulty in breathing as the holy father has also been given blood when platelets are low.

Pope Francis, 88, was diagnosed with double pneumonia and has been hospitalized since February 14.

Since 2013, he has been head of the Catholic Church but suffered several health issues in recent years. Pope Francis had undergone major surgeries in 2021 and 2023.

His latest hospitalisation has created doubts over his ability to continue as leader of Catholics. who are almost 1.4 billion in number in the world. This has fueled speculation over his potential resignation.
